Ronald Trent Anderson was born and raised in Madison. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1956, and went on to study at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he received his BS in Art Education,‘61, MS in Art, ’62 and MFA in Art, ’63.

Anderson has received numerous awards for his paintings, prints, and drawings in exhibitions throughout the United States and Canada. A retrospective including a number of his prize winning works done in a wide variety of styles and media was showing in the Porter Butts Gallery at the Memorial Union in Madison, through July 25th, 2006.
The exhibition traces the artist’s career from early abstractions, to an interest in realism, followed by a return to abstraction, as a 1996 trip to China helped refuel an earlier interest in Far Eastern art. In December 2005 an International jury invited Anderson to exhibit his recent paintings in the 5th International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy. The artist resides with his wife, Barbara, in Amherst, Massachusetts.
