Oshkosh, Artist Haven

by Daithi

This is no la-de-da affair, but more of an art scene with teeth. On par with many cosmopolitan cities, Oshkosh has utilized it’s alternative spaces to create a culture, revitalize a downtown, and provide a unique evening experience.

From the gallery walk’s infancy twelve years ago, it has exploded with over twenty-five venues, including studios, galleries, collectives, co-ops, centers, coffee houses, restaurants, pubs, spas, boutiques, and shops. On any first Saturday of any month, 6-9 p.m. downtown Oshkosh turns into an art cornucopia. At times over 700 people have attended a single gallery walk. A university town located on Lake Winnebago, Oshkosh’s downtown has been an artistic heartbeat of the Fox Valley and a reservoir of creative talent. The walk has spawned several charity events, music concerts, fashion shows, annuals, and peace rallies.

Whether your taste in art is realistic or abstract, jewelry or painting, poetry or performance Oshkosh has something for you. For a map, more information, or links to artists and organizations web pages, go on line to www.oshkoshgallerywalk.com
