Charlie Lyons, printmaker and Paint Box Gallery director/owner passed away May 25, 2007. Lyons was the Miller Art Museum's first curator, from its inception in 1975 through 1988. During his tenure, he set the course of professional museum standards that are still followed today. He gave freely of his time and expertise as he installed 100's of exhibits, gave lectures, and shared with the community his love of prints and framing. Door County artist Charles L. 'Chick' Peterson donated his portrait of Lyons to the Miller Art Museum permanent collection, a collection that Lyons was instrumental in developing that now has nearly 600 pieces created primarily by Wisconsin artists.
Lyons was an artist, teacher, lecturer, framer, and appraiser. He owned and operated the Paint Box Gallery in Ephraim with his wife and partner, Carol Gresko. Carol is continuing to run the Paint Box Gallery and many of Charlie's woodcut print are on exhibit there.. The Paint Box Gallery, Ephraim 920.854.4435
