Poetry and Art Collaboration

The Lake Country Project for Artists and Poets is seeking to help promote the creative works of visual artists and writers in the Lake Country community by creating a project of collaborative, ekphrastic art (Ekphrasis: poetry inspired by art - the conversation between two artistic mediums).

They hope to conduct this project over the course of 2-3 years. In their first year, and they have chosen 10 artists and 10 poets to work together in pairs. WVA member Judith Reidy is one of the participating artists. Each creative pair will have approximately 3 months to work together to create 1 painting and 1 poem.

There is a two-part scope to the Lake Country Project for Artists and Poets, which will be co-facilitated in partnership with PAAC (The Pewaukee Area Arts Council: www.pewaukeearts.org/project.htm). There will be a joint art show and poetry reading this year at The Raven Gallery in Pewauakee, WI in late fall 2009, featuring the completed ekphrastic works of each artistic team. There is also a proposed anthology of Lake Country Artists and Poets (to be published after the 3rd year) Most of all, as a group, they hope to enhance the local creative community, inspire young artists, and provide a rich source of enjoyment for the literary and fine arts.

Cristina M. R. Norcross (www.FirkinFiction.com) and Liz Rhodebeck (www.waterwriter.com) are the poetry co-editors and Troy Tatlock (owner of The Raven Gallery: www.ravengalleryandframing.com) is the art editor/advisor.
