The creation of a portrait ...is a complicated artistic process that thrills me each and every time

A luscious palette of colors. Brushwork that appeals to the senses. The evoking of a mood. The creation of a portrait of a person or an animal is a complicated artistic process that thrills me each and every time I paint or draw. I have been creating paintings and drawings in oil, acrylic, pencil, conté crayon and colored pencil on an intimate scale for many years.
After earning a BFA in Painting at Boston University and an MFA in Painting at American University, I went on to careers in the fine arts, teaching, and graphic arts. As a fine artist I received a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board and won awards in juried exhibitions in California. In 2008 and 2009 I received awards at the Annual Madison Art Guild Exhibitions. I was invited to participate in the Hospice Mask-er-Aid, a Madison tradition. In addition to producing commissioned and personal oil and acrylic paintings, I have worked as a courtroom artist for television stations in Minneapolis and St. Paul and have produced a variety of commercial pieces for small businesses as a freelance artist. Most recently I donated a painting to The Victory Academy School for Autism 2011 Silent Auction in Portland, Oregon. I am proud to participate in an event that helps these children reach their full potential. Currently I am a member of Madison Art Guild as well as Wisconsin Visual Artists.
