The exhibition Women of Summer will run from June 3 - 24 with a reception Friday, June 3 5-7 PM. The show features Sarah Aslakson, Peg Cullen, Tina Duemler and Marc O’Brient. They will be displaying their plein air work of sites in the Driftless Area region of Southwest Wisconsin at the Monroe Art Center, 1315 11th Street in Monroe.
These Artists have been painting on location together for several years. Observing how differently each interpreted their chosen locations, they felt it would make for an interesting exhibit to show how different artists interpret the same location. Each week one of the artists would pick a location, meet and each create a painting or drawing from what they saw. Sarah works mostly in watercolor, Peg in pen and ink and watercolor and acrylic, Tina in oil and Marc in watercolor. Their styles range from realistic to abstract. Viewers may recognize many of the locations. The work is smaller than many of the artists’ studio pieces as they are completed on location with time and weather constraints. Since the works will be smaller, they will be affordable.
