Featured Artist Richard W. Patt
Bountiful Fields, 24” x 18”
After having painted hundreds of landscapes, he felt he could make the leap into painting them without any reference material. He asked himself, “What material do I know best internally?” What surfaced was a flood of barn images and their environs. Mr. Patt begins a landscape farm scene relying only on his memories, impressions and emotions of these things. A repeating theme in his work is a strong horizontal linear quality, an influece the artist credits to Richard Diebenkorn.
His work has been exhibited at galleries in Santa Fe-New Mexico, Scottsdale & Tucson-Arizona, Chicago-Illinois, Milwaukee & Door County- Wisconsin
His “Barns in the Wisconsin Landscape” show debuted September first in the Art Festival of the Third Ward district of Milwaukee. The show had 160 juried artists from the U.S. and abroad and an attendance of over 15,000. He was chosen for the “Best Painter in the Show” award. In Door County the works were shown at Fine Line Designs Gallery, a representative of Mr. Patt. His solo exhibition there in Spring was a huge success - a sold out show!
Many new paintings in the “Barn” series, which currently encompasses 43 works, will be exhibited in downtown Madison, November 10-11 at the annual Winter Art Fair, Monona Terrace Convention Center, sponsored by the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople.
