At the Museum of Wisconsin Art

2014 WVA Lifetime Achievement Awards: Friday, May 16 - West Bend

The 11th annual WVA Lifetime Achievement Awards ceremony will be held at the Museum of Wisconsin Art at 205 Veterans Ave. in West Bend on Friday, May 16th at 5:30 p.m. Founded in 2004 as a collaboration between the MOWA, our own WVA, and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters, the WVALAA is essentially the in-state “Hall of Fame” for individuals, groups and organizations who have supported the visual arts with distinction. There will be refreshments, snacks and a cash bar for your enjoyment.
This year’s recipients: Edward S. Curtis – photographer, Martha Glowacki – artist/administrator, Audrey Handler – artist, David V. Holmes – artist/educator, Mark Mulhern – artist, Della Wells – artist/activist and Ruth West - patron.
Guest speaker Carl Corey will give a talk entitled “A Sense of Place.” Hudson-based Corey takes deceivingly simple pictures of Wisconsin family-owned businesses in an exhibit now showing at MOWA. Utilizing an honest and straightforward technical approach, the subjects backstory is far from simple be it on a familial, local, national or global level. Corey’s talk will focus on what gives these businesses a sense of place within these parameters.
Support for Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Awards is provided by the WVA, AC Art Association and the League of Milwaukee Artists, the Museum of Wisconsin Art, the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters, and individual donors. For more information visit www.wvalaa.com
