Featured artist J.J. JOYCE

Knowing, 40” x 30”, Oil painting on canvas
Vibrant, bold colors and meticulous detail are the signature of a J.J. Joyce painting. She is inspired by the time she spends in nature, specifically her own garden and pond. A rainbow of color can be found in one wave of water or one petal of a flower. Her colors and her thick wrapped canvases allow the viewer to become a part of the dream she has created. She is not afraid of a challenge, as you can see with her triptych “Envision,” which is 108” wide by 48” long. As an artist, J.J. is primarily an oil painter. She also paints in acrylic and is an avid photographer.

J. J. Joyce is not only an accomplished artist, but also a master gardener. Her largest piece of artwork is her garden, with her own backyard as a canvas. Her gardens are full of flowers and the sound of running water throughout the year. The fluidity of water brings her garden together. Two ponds, complete with waterfall, running stream, and the lotus flower bog can be found in her front and back yards. The ponds are filled with life, including giant koi fish, water lilies and aquatic plants. J.J. designed and constructed her garden and ponds out of her own vision, actually digging out each of the ponds herself. Her garden attracts butterflies, dragonflies and other wildlife to further inspire her art. She truly has an eye for the boundless outlets for creating beauty.

J.J. is a member of the Oil Painters of America, has been on the board and a member of the League of Milwaukee Artists, Wisconsin Visual Artist and Federated Garden Club.

J.J. graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, with an emphasis in Oil Painting and Photography. In 2001, she completed a Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in Art Education, with an emphasis in Computer Graphics. In 2004 and 2005, she enhanced her photography background with professional photography classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College.
