a curiosity for aesthetics and found materials

Featured Artist Sara Willadsen

Slip Up, mixed media on paper, 12”x12” by Sara Willadsen
Sara Willadsen makes pictures that satisfy her curiosity in aesthetics and found materials. Combining these articles with reappropriations of her own work allows Willadsen to employ past patterns and marks as prompts for new structures and environments. The aggressive process used to construct these secretive spaces is kept in balance with the consciousness to know when to stop.
Willadsen received her BA in Fine Art and Graphic Design from Lakeland University in 2010 and her MFA in Painting from Northern Illinois University in 2014. Working mainly with paint and various site-specific found materials, Willadsen’s work explores concepts of abstract spaces and structures guided by her surroundings.
She has had work featured in New American Paintings and Fresh Paint Magazine and shows frequently in group exhibitions across the country. She currently lives in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. To see more Willadsen’s work, visit her website: www.sarawilladsen.com.
