Shelley Smith is best known for capturing contemporary, yet nostalgic American “Sights Often Seen, Rarely Noticed” – subjects that trigger the imagination for their history, irony, isolation or beauty – using a limited palette of luscious, complementary oil colors.

Knowing her colors before she could talk was an early sign as to the importance of color and aesthetics ingrained in her personality. Unusually, math, microeconomics and logic also came naturally. These two seemingly diverse realms – art/aesthetics and logic/analytics – can be recognized in her work via typically clean lines, careful perspective and compositional arrangement. She's also very analytical when it comes to color selection.

Shelley Smith was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and grew up in Milwaukee. She attended Marquette University, Eckerd College and the University of Denver. She lived in Florida, Colorado and Illinois, before returning to Wisconsin. She is married to her supportive husband, Dave, and they are enjoying living in a former miner and lumberjack clothing factory in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward neighborhood.

Shelley is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists and Oil Painters of America.
