The event is free for MOWA members. Non-member admission is $12 and includes a free annual membership, which allows unlimited return visits to the Biennial exhibition, future exhibitions, and hundreds of member events, programs, and activities.

Part of the 1st Place Award in the 2016 Wisconsin Artists Biennial was a solo
exhibit. S. V. Medaris won this award and her exhibit Strange Breeds: Evolution and Selective Breeding at MOWA from February 3 - April 1, 2018
In Strange Breeds, printmaker S.V. Medaris explores the extremes of breeding through her depictions of the farm dogs, hogs, and chickens that surround her every day on her farm near Mount Horeb.

Exhibition Activities

•Meet and Make Saturday, February 10 | 10:30–3:00
Six Biennial artists set up mini studios in the atrium for visitors to experience their process firsthand and create a piece of artwork at each spot. See more below.

•Biennial Artists Panel Saturday, March 17 | 2:00–3:00
2016 Biennial winner S.V. Medaris and this year’s award winners will discuss their work and what it means to be a Wisconsin artist in today’s globalized art world.

•MOWA Masters | Multiple dates of adult studio classes taught by Biennial artists. Visit MOWA’s website to find out more: www.wisconsinart.org

Adults are invited to learn new art techniques in hands-on interactive studios taught by Wisconsin artists.

•Meet and Make
Meet six Biennial artists and experience their process firsthand. Each artist will set up a mini studio space in the atrium for participants to explore a variety of media, including printmaking, painting, mixed media, fiber arts, and paper sculpture. Participating artists: Kelly Thorn Dulka, Jenie Gao, J Myszka Lewis, Tori Tasch, Wendi Turchan, and Michael Velliquette.

Get inspired by the artists and create a piece of artwork at each mini studio.

This year included an impressive turnout of 386 artists submitting 1,066 total works for consideration. Jurors Katherine Chang Liu, Graeme Reid, and Scott Zieher selected a total of 53 works created by 43 artists. The selection process was extremely difficult and we thank all of you who entered. Hope to see you at the Opening Party.

Wisconsin Visual Artists (WVA) organizes the 2018 Wisconsin Artists Biennial in partnership with MOWA in 2018. WVA is a not-for-profit juried membership-based organization of visual artists working in all media and styles and those who support Wisconsin Art. All visual artists living in Wisconsin may become a WVA member.

Membership levels are:
1) Supporting (new artist members are placed at this level until juried level is determined;
2) Associate; and
3) Professional.
