The's show's title isn't a brag - it's actually quite literal! :)

A Cut Above - Letterpressed Collages

ArtSpace Collective, Inc.

February 2 - 24, 2018
Reception Saturday, February 3, 2018 6-9 p.m.
The title of the show comes from the vintage letterpress "cuts" that are used in every collage; I've had a (growing!) collection of these beautiful metal and wood images for about 10 years, and I've finally taken the time to print many of them to use in these collages.

I used each cut as a prompt for the subject matter of the collage; for example, the film projector cut is included in the home movie-themed collage.

I love rescuing these bits from the landfill, and thankfully, more and more people, even those far younger than I, are using letterpress in their artwork again! What started as a trip to Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Two Rivers has become a vital part of my work, whether it be with wood type or with cuts, and sometimes both! And there's good news - some folks are even learning how to create cuts with wood, such as Moore Wood Type and Virgin Wood Type, both of which can be found in my "Carnaby Bird" collage! Long live letterpress!
